This is a scheduled post, as I am in Swaziland and South Africa until 7th March, and will probably have no internet access. If you do comment, please don’t think I am ignoring you by not replying!
Throwback Thursday is a social media phenomenon, where users post an old image of themselves. Rather than subject you to countless images of an even younger me, I have decided that each Thursday I am going to subject you to an older image of mine, and how the image came about.
This image was shot on a Canon Ixus 960. At the time, I was mostly shooting underwater, and had ordered this compact and it’s housing, specifically because of the Image Stabilisation (IS) and at 12mp, plus a few years newer than the camera it was replacing (Olympus C5000) I was hopeful the image quality would be much improved.
Whilst the images were crisper, and had better dynamic range, the camera itself was a total let down. There was no proper manual mode, which is essential underwater, so I had to get creativ with the workarounds and ‘trick’ the camera into behaving as I wanted it to.
I had seen the makings of this image the day before, as I got up early to go to the dive centre, so on the morning in question I made sure I was down by the pool of my holiday villa just as the sky was beginning to lighten. Within minutes, I had several nice shots in the bag, but this was the pic for me.
The stillness of the pool contrasts nicely with the gentle ripples on the sea, and the colours are not too over the top.
An improvement would be to remove the sculpture between the 2 trees, but as it wasn’t my place…. I could clone it out, but my Photoshop skills are nowhere near good enough for that!
